The “M&M” PLAN
The “M&M” plan is designed to help you MEMORIZE and MEDITATE on God’s Holy Word. It is based on the premise that what we lack is not usually information as much as it is application – and it is when you add application to information that you get transformation, which is the goal.
In the following three verses in Psalms, the Lord paints for us a picture of how transforming His Word can be in our lives if we will MEMORIZE it and MEDITATE on it. Pause and consider:
Psalm 119:105: “Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path.”
Psalm 119:11: “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”
Psalm 1:1: “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.”
With this plan you will be encouraged to MEMORIZE one verse per week. You will also be encouraged to MEDITATE on supplemental verses each day that correspond with that key verse for the week. Each week is designed to bring one particular topic or concept into focus. The topic may be “forgiveness” or “trust” or “humility”, but verses for the week coincide with one another and point back to the one key verse to memorize.
As with most devotional plans, this will be as meaningful as you allow it to be. You may find that 5 minutes a day is sufficient, or you may be drawn to spend much more time with it, but if you truly meditate on God’s word and allow it soak down deep into your soul, it may prove to be the most powerful year of your life.
How many verses of God’s Word do you have committed to memory right now – verses that the Holy Spirit can bring to the forefront of your mind at just the right moment? Most people would say very few, but by following this plan for just one year there will be 52 such verses woven into your soul. The Lord can then transform you through His Word in ways that you may not have ever even known were possible – God’s Word IS that powerful!
PRACTICAL SUGGESTIONS:
- Establish a consistent time each day to use the M&M plan, whatever works best for you, but most people do better with a regular routine.
- Rewrite the key verse for the week on a note card or sticky note or both. The more you write it – the more easily you memorize it. Placing it on your bathroom mirror or posting it on your computer screen or putting it some other place where you will often see it each day can also greatly help.
- Continually let these two phrases be part of your time with the Lord: 1) Father, please speak to me through Your Word and help me be a good listener to what You want to say. 2) Lord, please show me where I need to make changes and give me the strength and courage through the Holy Spirit to do so.
